Rainer Erich (‘Eric’) Scheichelbauer – Unfinished. How to work on a script for which there is no implementation yet

And now: typeface designer, digital punchcutter and teacher Rainer Erich (»Eric«) Scheichelbauer, from Vienna, Austria, who runs his own type studio „Schriftlabor“. He offers quite a utopian sounding approach to typography by questioning how one can design »a typeface for a script that has not been digitised yet«.

Quickly the author of the Glyphs handbook brings the seemingly paradoxical question back to reality of type design practice. With the Glyphs.app he presents a tool which opens up new possibilities for digitalization of scripts. And moreover behind the abstract data there is the Glyphs team, which helps you to implement your script in the software.

A complex topic presented rather comprehensible – not least because of Scheichelbauer’s remarkable performing qualities. Very entertaining and lots of interest in the audience as the discussion shows.
